Dashboard Permissions
Dashboard permissions enable control over who can view, edit, and administrate dashboards.
Overview
- There are three types of authorizations:
| View | Allows visualization and interaction with dashboard components such as widgets, variables, and time selectors. |
|---|---|
| Edit | Enables modification, addition, or removal of any dashboard component, including widgets and variables. |
| Administrate | Provides privileges to delete dashboards or modify ownership and permissions. |
- These authorizations are determined by the level of permission assigned to the dashboard:
| Permission | View | Edit | Administrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| PUBLIC | Everyone | Everyone | Owner & Admins |
| RESTRICTED | Everyone | Owner & Admins | Owner & Admins |
| PRIVATE | Owner | Owner | Owner |
- The RESTRICTED permission is automatically applied to new dashboards.
Custom Permissions
- Greater permission levels can be granted to specific groups of users.
- For example:
- Set a dashboard to PRIVATE.
- Assign the RESTRICTED permission to an Authorization Profile named
Dashboard Viewers. - Consequently, only the owner and members of the
Dashboard Viewersprofile can access the dashboard.
Adding a Custom Permission

Add Permissionand select an existing profile. - Choose the associated permission.
- Multiple profiles with different permissions can be added.
Warning:
- It is not possible to reduce permissions for a group below the default dashboard permission level.
- If a dashboard is public, preventing a group from viewing or editing the dashboard is not possible.
